There is a new battery recycling program at the Gillespie Center! Some batteries contain dangerous metals such as mercury, silver, lead or cadmium. Size alone isn't the best guide as some of the tiniest batteries are the most hazardous. Drop off all types and sizes of household batteries, just look for our container labeled "battery recycling." It is currently located in our coat room in the front lobby area of the center.
The Hennepin County Battery Program has been collecting dry cell batteries from drop off sites throughout the county since the early 1990's. There are currently almost 200 locations to drop off batteries around the county including retail stores, libraries, city and county buildings, senior centers and schools.
